With the January transfer window fast approaching, Manchester United are expected to be among Europes big spenders.Jose Mourinho is hopeful of strengthening his side after an indifferent start to the season with United languishing in eighth place, 12 points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City.A number of players have been linked with a move away from the club, too, so it will be interesting to see what deals take place at the beginning of 2019.talkSPORT.com rounds up the latest Man United transfer news.
Lorenzo Pellegrini (Roma)
While Roma are desperate to keep hold off the Italy international, United are intent on landing the 22-year-old midfielder and are believed to have already met with his agent in London, Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport report. Pellegrini has a 27million release clause in his contract and United would be more than happy to activate it. The 22-year-old has two goals and five assists in 12 matches this season.Jordan Pickford (Everton)
Mourinho is said to be an admirer of the Everton goalkeeper who starred at the World Cup for England as he helped them reach the semi-final. He has taken that excellent form into the new season and with David de Gea seemingly reluctant to sign a new contract at the club, United see Pickford as the ideal replacement, but would have to part with 60m to get him, report the Sun.5Diego Godin (Atletico Madrid)
United have been desperate to add to their defence for a while now, with the much-maligned Phil Jones and Chris Smalling, along with Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly continually failing to convince. The 32-year-old Atletico Madrid captain turned down the chance to move to United in the summer, but that has not deterred Mourinho, who, according to the Daily Star, hopes to get the experienced centre-back at a knockdown price given he is available for nothing next year when his contract expires..5Milan Skriniar (Inter)
Another defender on the Mourinho radar is Inter star Skriniar. Considered one of the best defenders in Serie A, United reportedly had a previous bid of 53m for the 23-year-old rejected.Inter are keen to persuade the defender to sign a new contract, with Skriniar’s agent, Karol Csonto quoted as saying: “We’re talking about it.We’re working on it.It’s a subject we’ll be facing more intensively over the next few months. He is happy with the Nerazzurri shirt, he is playing well, but he is aware there are some difficulties in Serie A.” According to Gazzetta dello Sport in Italy, United could face competition from Barcelona for the Slovakia international’s signature. His manager, Luciano Spalletti recently joked the player is worth more than 100 million “If it’s Barcelona, they will have to pay 100m and if I am them I would pay a 20m tip on top,” he said after a commanding display against the Spanish side. “And if I’m Real Madrid, the [100m] with a 40m tip — that is how highly I rate Skriniar.”5Marcus Rashford
It is understood Juventus are compiling a dossier on the Man United youngster. Rashford, 21, is saidto be on a list of prospective Juventus transfer targets, according to The Times. The striker’s contract runs until2020 with the Old Trafford club having the option to extend that by a further year. However, the agreement of any new deal would be dependent on Rashford being convinced he could develop and thrive at hisboyhood club, for whom he has started just five Premier League games this season.5Paul Pogba
The midfielder wants to leave United and rejoin Juventus, the club he left Old Trafford for in 2016, according to Italian newspaperCorriere dello Sport.A poor relationship between the player and Jose Mourinho has seen Pogba clash with his manager on more than one occassion this season and they were caught on camera having an argument on the training pitch. Barcelona were linked with Pogba – who has been non-committal about his Premier League future – in the summer, but Juve may feel they could pip their European rivals. At the end of the most recent United v Juve Champions League game, it was clear the 25-year-old still has a good relationship with fans.getty5Huddersfield Town chairman Dean Hoyle is on the road to recovery following a battle with pancreatitis.
