Gareth Southgate has distanced himself from taking over at Manchester United this summer.Reports towards the end of the year suggested the England boss was in contention to replace Jose Mourinho on a full-time basis.2

Southgate seems set to stay with England for the foreseeable future

The Portuguese was sacked after a woeful start to the season in December and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was placed in temporary charge at Old Trafford.Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino was initially installed as the bookies favourites for the role, but Solskjaer has turned the tide for the Red Devils with seven consecutive wins in all competitions.Southgate was also in contention to be appointed for the role following his stellar 2018 with the Three Lions, but the former Middlesbrough boss has now ruled himself out completely.He told Sky Sports News: “I’m the England manager and it’s a privileged position to be in.
