And it was confirmed on Thursday morning that Longstaff will be sidelined until July due to his injury, which means he will miss Newcastle’s final nine matches of the Premier League campaign. The lengthy lay-off comes at a dreadful time for the youngster, who has recently established himself as a key player for the Magpies. He made his first league appearance for Newcastle last December and has since played a further eight times, with his performance in the club’s January defeat of Manchester City widely lauded. The 21-year-old scored his first goal for the Magpies in February, and he was being tipped for an England Under-21 call-up later this month.
