Massimiliano Allegri claims Leonardo Bonucci ‘expressed himself badly’ when commenting on the racist abuse team-mate Moise Kean received during Juventus’ defeat of Cagliari.Bonucci opened the scoring against the Sardinian club on Tuesday with Kean adding Juve’s second late on, after being subjected to racial abuse from a section of the home support.2

The forward celebrated his goal in front of the Cagliari fans as a response to their abuse, and Bonucci said after the match that Kean must shoulder half the blame for being abused due to his actions.“I think the blame is 50-50, because Moise shouldnt have done that and the Curva (Cagliaris ultra fans) should not have reacted that way,” said Bonucci.“We are professionals, we have to set the example and not provoke anyone.” Bonucci later came out to claim his comments were ‘misunderstood’, and Allegri, who was himself criticised for saying Kean should not have celebrated in the manner he did, tried to set the record straight at the club’s press conference on Friday.“Racism must always be fought against and is never justifiable,” Allegri said.“With his mind still on the game, post-match, Bonucci expressed himself badly but realised this and apologised. These two things are distinct.”Juventus captain Giorgio Chiellini led the player protests to referee Piero Giacomelli, who also spoke to both managers, about the racist abuse.
