Lovell was relieved of his duties on Friday despite successfully guiding Gils to the safety of 12th in League One.The 58-year-old had only been in charge for 18 months and won 32 of his 92 games as manager.Cascarino said: The decision to sack Steve Lovell is disgraceful and embarrassing for Gillingham and their fans. I know Paul Scally and Ive spoken to him on numerous occasions, but I hope the fans give it to him today and let him know exactly how I feel.Hes got them to 13th in the league under very difficult circumstances.I spoke to Paul at a game and he said, The answer was under my nose, it was Steve Lovell.
